How to learn English with technology news

A practical reading routine: understand a development, notice useful vocabulary, and practice explaining it.

1. Read for the main idea

Choose one technology briefing. Read the headline and introduction, then explain the main development in one sentence. You do not need to understand every word before identifying what happened and why it matters.

2. Pick words you will use

Select a few terms that help you describe the story. For an AI announcement, inference and latency may be more useful than a list of unfamiliar company names. Read the original sentence before checking the definition.

3. Notice the context

A familiar word can carry a specialized meaning. A startup’s runway concerns its cash and spending assumptions, while an airport runway is a physical place. Ask what the word means in this particular story.

4. Explain it in your own words

Close the article and write two or three sentences about the development. Use one new term naturally. If you cannot explain it, return to the example and simplify your sentence.

5. Return and recall

Review the words later without looking at their definitions first. Try a fresh example from your own work or interests. Use the daily plan in 10 Vocabs to keep your practice organized.

A five-minute starting routine

  1. Read the introduction and main point.
  2. Choose two useful words and inspect their examples.
  3. Write a short explanation using one of them.
  4. At your next session, recall the meaning before checking it.
